Jerusalem, Cattle, and a Mill

What a day! We decided to drive to a BLM spot between Holden, UT and Scipio, UT, just over 2 hours away. Knowing we're slow, I planned on 3 hours. I may have underestimated a bit. 7 hours later, we arrived to our campsite! It took a long time, but we sure had fun getting there.

Our first stop was Bish's RV to get a fuel filter. They informed us that they only deal with gas engines, so they sent us to Freightliner. The very helpful man there hooked us up with a water separator and a fuel filter. Since Abe had never changed them before, he decided to change them in the Freightliner parking lot in case we needed more parts. There we were, at the back of a lot filled with beautiful brand new bobtails, with totes, tools, and rags pulled out next to our 20 year old Airstream. We were told that a small bit of diesel would leak, but were unprepared for how much there actually was. Nothing drastic, but definitely a noticeable amount. I was just waiting for someone to come out and yell at us, but thankfully, they never did. I'm glad we changed them, because the old filter was a cheap one that had clearly not been changed in way too long. Freightliner sold us up a Cat filter for our Cat engine, and it must have been needed because Abe felt the difference in the way the engine was running. Maybe that was why it took several tries to start her up this morning. After we were done, I used some rags to scrub up the spills the best we could before gathering everything up and leaving. Judging by the layer of dust all over the parking lot, the small bit we couldn't soak up will disappear in no time.

We were on our way, when Abe remembered that the Jerusalem set, a recreation of Jerusalem in Jesus' time where season 2 for The Chosen was filmed, was somewhere nearby. I looked it up, and all I could find was that it was in the town of Goshen, about 30 miles out of the way. We set off in that direction, hoping we could get a tour or something. I couldn't find an address, so once we got to Goshen, we pulled over at a gas station and asked the cashier inside if she knew where it was. We were in luck! One other person had asked her that, and she was able to listen to her husband give directions. Turn at the old gas station, drive past the dairy, and it should be on your left. The directions were perfect, and we found it. Unfortunately, there was a heavy gate across the road to it and it was marked private property. Abe flew the drone up and tried to get some pictures, and I got a picture from the road quite a ways away.

We parked next to a feed lot to get that picture, so of course I had to pet the steers. They were all staring at us, but only a few came up close enough to touch them, and as soon as I did, they backed up. A couple of them licked my hand. I know they're food, but is it weird that I'd love to buy one some day to keep it as a pet? One in particular had the sweetest face... I wanted to take him with me. Maybe it could share the dog crate with Marley??? I'm sure the couple of people that drove by thought I was nuts, but I had fun.

Driving back to the freeway we saw something strange built into the hillside, so Abe turned onto a back road so we could check it out. We weren't able to get very close, so I grabbed the binoculars, but couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was. It looked like a cluster of concrete or stone silos, and some other weird buildings built into the mountain. I opened up Google Maps hoping that it would be listed, and sure enough, I found it. It's the Tintic Standard Reduction Mill, in operation from 1921-1925.

I found this on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tintic_Standard_Reduction_Mill. It's an interesting read if you like history.

We finally made it to the campsite, and are now relaxing. This spot is lovely because there's a good fence between it and the freeway, and we were able to let the dogs run a bit. They've been in the RV or on a leash for too long, so the run was very needed. Tomorrow we'll head farther south. We'll probably be on the move daily until we hit warm weather.

Abe says he’ll relax when he stops driving. The wind has been crazy. We’re just about done, thankfully. I’m so glad to hear you like reading this! Thank you!
